Privacy Policy

Sippo is built so your name, your goals and every sip you log stay with you. Here’s exactly what the app and this website do with your information.

Last updated

This policy covers the Sippo app for Mac and this website. Sippo is made by Larusan Wijayavarman, based in Sri Lanka. In this policy, “we” and “us” refer to Larusan Wijayavarman. The short version: Sippo is designed so that we never receive your personal information.

No account

You never sign up or sign in to use Sippo.

No tracking

No analytics, ads or tracking code, in the app or on this site.

Stays on your Mac

Your name, goal and drink log are stored on your Mac, not on our servers.

Your iCloud, not ours

If you use iCloud, Sippo syncs through your own private iCloud account. We can’t see it.

What Sippo keeps on your Mac

To do its job, Sippo saves the following on your Mac:

  • Your name, if you give one, so your buddy can greet you. It’s optional.
  • Your choices: your buddy, daily water goal, usual amount per drink, check-in interval, and the hours reminders run.
  • Your drink log: the time and amount of each drink you log, and the days you reached your goal. The Stats window is built from this.
  • Your settings, such as sounds, launch at login and the pause switches.

All of this stays in Sippo’s own storage on your Mac. None of it is sent to us, and we don’t run any server that could receive it.

iCloud

If you’re signed in to iCloud, Sippo uses Apple’s iCloud to keep your name, choices, drink log and trial start date the same on all your Macs, and to bring them back if you reinstall. Settings that belong to one particular Mac, like sounds and the pause switches, stay on that Mac.

This data is stored in your own private iCloud account, and we can’t access it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy. If you aren’t signed in to iCloud, everything stays on your Mac.

Your free trial

To run the 14-day free trial, Sippo records the date the trial started. That date is saved on your Mac, in your Mac’s keychain, and in your iCloud account if you use iCloud. The keychain copy stays on your Mac even after Sippo is deleted, so reinstalling doesn’t restart the trial. It holds nothing but the date.

Purchases

Sippo is sold only through the Mac App Store. Apple processes your payment, and we never receive your name, email address or payment details. To find out whether you’ve unlocked Sippo, the app asks the App Store on your Mac through Apple’s StoreKit. Apple gives us sales reports that don’t identify individual buyers.

Permissions and on-device checks

Sippo asks for as little as it can. Everything below happens on your Mac. None of it is saved or sent anywhere.

Focus

If you turn on Pause during Focus, macOS asks whether Sippo may see your Focus status. Sippo only learns whether a Focus is on, not which one, and uses that to hold reminders. You can change this at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Focus.

Fullscreen, screen sharing and presentations

To avoid interrupting you at a bad moment, Sippo checks whether the app in front is in fullscreen, whether another app has asked to keep the display awake (as presentation, video and call apps do), and whether Screen Sharing or display mirroring is on. It never records your screen or looks at what’s in your windows.

Launch at login

Sippo adds itself to your login items only if you turn on Launch at login.

Sippo doesn’t access your contacts, calendars, location, photos, camera, microphone or Apple Health data.

Crash reports

Sippo has no analytics or crash-reporting code of its own. If you’ve chosen to share crash data with app developers in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics for Sippo that don’t identify you. You can turn this off there at any time.

This website

  • This site doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it has no forms or sign-ups.
  • It loads its typeface, Fredoka, from Google Fonts. To do that, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and basic browser details. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Like any website, the service that hosts this site may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and running.
  • The download buttons take you to the Mac App Store, where Apple’s privacy policy applies.

When you email us

If you write to us at hello@trysippo.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and we’ll delete your messages if you ask.

Selling and sharing

We don’t sell or rent personal information, share it for advertising, or combine it with data from anywhere else. Sippo has no ads and no third-party analytics or advertising code.

Your choices and your data

  • Change or clear your name, goal and other choices whenever you like in Sippo Settings.
  • Remove Sippo’s data from your Mac: quit Sippo and move it to the Trash. Then, in Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder…, enter ~/Library/Containers, and move the Sippo folder there to the Trash as well.
  • Remove Sippo’s data from iCloud: in System Settings, click your name, choose iCloud, then manage your iCloud storage and delete Sippo’s data.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it’s used. Because Sippo doesn’t send your personal information to us, there’s usually nothing for us to hand over or delete. Still, email us with any request and we’ll help.

Children

Sippo doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. For any question about privacy, email us at hello@trysippo.com.
